Database

The Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) is a freely available resource funded by NIAID. The database catalogs experimental data on antibody and T cell epitopes studied in humans and other animal species in the context of infectious disease, allergy, autoimmunity, and transplantation. The IEDB also hosts the Analysis Resource (AR), a companion site with T and B cell epitope prediction and analysis tools. The IEDB is in the process of redesigning the AR with an emphasis on usability, simplicity, and tool integration. As a result, we now also host the Next-Generation IEDB Tools to give users a more seamless epitope prediction and data analysis experience through the ability to create tool pipelines, where the output of one tool can be used as the input for another seamlessly.

Metrics

As of January 2024, the IEDB contains over 2.2 million epitopes from almost 80,000 antigens studied in over 6.7 million T, B, and MHC ligand assays. The IEDB also contains over 190,000 T and B cell receptors. This data has been captured from over 24,000 peer-reviewed publications in PubMed. As of 2023, the IEDB receives over 38,000 median site visits per month (~17,000 for the database and ~21,000 for the Analysis Resource). In 2022, IEDB publications received 4,468 citations, with a cumulative total since its inception of almost 25,000 citations. Finally, the IEDB was cited in 107 US patents filed in 2022, with a cumulative total of 665 patents since the IEDB launched.

Funding

The IEDB is funded by NIAID under contract 75N93019C00001. This is the IEDB’s third contract with NIAID. It was previously funded by NIAID under contracts HHSN266200400006C (IEDB 1) and HHSN272201200010C (IEDB 2). The IEDB is also funded under U24AI177622.
